(james) and i'm james fletcher. lets start the morning with a check of weather and traffic... mostly dry and mild weather is forecast through friday night. rain chances return by midday saturday and continue into sunday, with the best potential for weekend rain across the southern portion of our forecast area. active weather is expected to continue beyond the weekend, with forecast models showing periods of rain across our entire region through next week. areas south of san francisco, with rainfall amounts of mostly less than a half inch except locally up to an inch in southwest monterey county. the 00z gfs has trended farther south with its rainfall forecast, with nearly all rain forecast to

fall south of san jose. both the nam and gfs indicate the bulk of the rain will fall late saturday and saturday night. the 12z ecmwf, on the other hand, tracks the shortwave trough farther north and generates widespread moderate rainfall across most of our forecast area from midday saturday through saturday evening. over the weekend, the gfs forecasts only 0.01" in san francisco, the nam 0.09" and the ecmwf 1.19". such a wide range of model rainfall amounts results in a low confidence forecast this weekend. but the general idea is that rain chances will be highest across the southern portion of our area and rainfall amounts will most likely be heaviest in our southernmost counties.mild temperatures will continue through the weekend with lows mostly in the upper 40s and lower 50s and highs generally in the upper 50s and 60s. no major hot spots. bay bridge wb 80 is less then 30 min from the maze

thanks will. ( james ) police are searching for the person responsible for a deadly hit and run that killed an 18-year-old girl. it happened yesterday morning on vervais avenue in vallejo.. a g-m-c suburban rolled backwards for unknown reasons... hitting and killing ayres buffin. home surveillance shows the car rolling over... and someone getting out and running away. police have now named this man... vincent fitzer... as a person of interest. we spoke to the ayres' sister who said she couldn't believe someone would leave ayres there to die. ( james )

friends and family created a memorial with flowers and cards at the crash site for the high school senior. ( james ) also developing this morning. a man is beaten to death overnight in walnut creek. ( darya ) kron4's lydia pantazes brings us the latest. police say when they found the 60-year old victim he had life threatening injuries.they tried to save his life, but he died at the scene. (take vo) the scene is less than half a mile from the walnut creek police department, where we are now.last night at about 6:52 pm the walnut creek police department received a phone call regarding a disturbance and possible assault at a construction site in the 1800 block of ygnacio valley rd. officers arrived at that location within seven minutes, but quickly determined that the initial report of the location was incorrect. officers eventually determined that the incident occurred somewhere near the 1800 block of lacassie ave and responded to that location to search for the involved parties. at approximately 7:19 pm, officers located the 60 year old victim, they tried to

save his life but he died at the scene. police detained a 34-year old man at the scene but they are not calling him a suspect at this point.that man and other witnesses are being interviewed.(oncam) if anyone has regarding this crime please call the walnut creek police department. ( darya ) new this morning... another school threat... this time at acalanes high school in lafayette. threatening graffiti was found in the girls bathroom. here is a picture. it says "i will shoot up the school next week." this is just the latest in a series of school threats in the bay area in the last few weeks. acalanes high school sent a letter to parents alerting them about the threat. the school says that the campus is safe and they will continue with their normal schedule. but lafayette police will have increased security at the school all next week. ( darya ) the san mateo county district attorney says a deadly police shooting back in december was justified. it started when officers responded to a report of a man with a gun pacing near a wells fargo. police say marco carlos had a gun in his hand and he refused to drop it.

he then shot at an officer. police fired back 25 times in three seconds... killing carlos. no charges will be filed against offcers. ( darya ) two west oakland gang members have been sentenced for a shooting that killed a toddler in 20-11. dionte houff and houston nathaniel were each sentenced to 43 years in prison on wednesday. both men admitted that they were afiliated with the "acorn gang."... and that they were targeting rival gang members during the shooting. they pleaded guilty to multiple charges including using a gun during a violent crime. the child was just one month short of his second birthday when he was killed. ( james ) a man is in custody for the armed robbery of a gas station in santa rosa. it happened thursday morning at the 76 gas station on coffey lane. police say kwanza houston came in and demanded money from the cashiers. he then made the employees get on the ground... and ran off. police

received a tip that houston was staying at a nearby hotel. when officers arrived he tried to run away...but was eventually detained. houston was booked on multiple charges including robbery and resisting arrest. ( james ) san jose police say this man robbed a wells fargo... and they need help finding him. the robbery happened back in december on north first street near highwat 101. police say the man walked into the bank with a gun... and half his face covered up. he demanded money from a teller and then ran off. police posted this video on youtube in hopes that someone will recognize him. ( james ) fremont police have arrested four men in connection with a skimming operation. they say the men used cloned a-t-m cards. police say they spotted one of the men making transactions at a wells fargo a-t-m. he was arrested after an officer found him with around 38- hundred dollars and dozens of gift cards --- but no a-t-m card. police also tracked down the man's brother at a motel and arrested him. in that motel room... police say

they found evidence that the brothers and two other men had come to the bay area from los angeles county just to use those clone cards. ( darya ) happening happening today... late san francisco mayor -- ed lee - - will be honored on treasure island. the ceremony will be hosted by the life learning academy. the charter school is also celebrating groundbreaking of its first dormitory. the dorms will be used to safely house 20 at-risk students at no cost. mayor lee was a supporter friend of the charter school. ( darya ) happening today... senator kamala harris will be visiting the bay area today. she's set to speak at a luncheon for the y-m-c-a. the luncheon is to help raise awareness... and support the organization's programs around the city. ( james ) new this morning... the samtrans is replacing 10 diesel buses with new electric buses. it is part of an effort to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions. here is a picture of the new buses. the will replace the oldest buses currently in the samtrans fleet. the

new buses will hold up to 56 passengers. they also include new u-s-b charging ports. but the new buses will not be in service until early next year. we're hearing the 9-1-1 calls made during the mass shooting at a florida high school... that killed 17 people. we're also hearing calls from parents.( darya ) that was a that was a mother delivering a message to her child. back on valentine's day... a gunman walked into marjory stoneman douglas high school and started shooting. eighty-one calls to 911 were

made during the shooting... authorities released 10 of them. ( darya ) the shooting lasted six minutes and the gunman -- nikolas cruz -- was taken into custody shortly afterwards. cruz made a court appearance wednesday. he withdrew his not guilty plea... and is now refusing to enter a plea. his arraignment is set for next wednesday. ( james ) big changes are coming to the way people in hayward get their electricity and it could save you a little bit of money. the city council voted to move customers off of electricity provided by p-g-and-e. the city will change to a carbon-free source of electricity. the power will be supplied by east bay community energy. the non profit will offer two different forms of electricity.

one of the choices will cost customers the same as p-g- and-e the other choice will be slightly cheaper. they city says that the changes will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 60 percent by the year 2040. ( james ) california's bullet-train project will cost more than originally thought and take longer to complete. but it's new chief executive is promising more transparency. the high-speed rail authority is expected to release its latest business plan today. it will include new building timelines... cost estimates and other details. the train will eventually run from san francisco to los angeles. the last plan estimated the cost at 64-billion dollars... and aimed to be done by 2029. ( darya ) the shouting match between president trump and oakland mayor libby schaaf is getting louder.( darya )

this all started when mayor schaaf warned people about impending immigration raids. president trump says ice agents were ready to take one-thousand into custody... but schaaf's warning allowed most of them to hide. now... oakland city leaders are responding... and the reaction is mixed. but mayor schaaf is taking it all in stride. ( darya ) the department of justice said the mayor's warning allowed at least 800 undocumented immigrants to avoid an arrest. earlier

this week... attorney general jeff sessions announced the d-o-j is suing the state of california over its sanctuary status. ( james ) as we get closer to spring break for college students... the u-s state department is warning people about visiting a popular tourist spot in mexico. people are being told to avoid playa del carmen after the u-s embassy announced a security threat. this comes a week after an explosive was found on a tourist ferry in the area. the embassy has already banned government employees from visiting the resort. ( james ) a 7-year-old a 7-year-old girl in arizona was brought to tears because she was afraid of wearing her star wars t-shirt. her mother posted on twitter that the girl was afraid that her classmates would make fun of her for liking... quote- "boys stuff." the mother's tweet went viral and was even seen by luke skywalker himself... mark hamill. hamill posted this gif on twitter telling the little girl to give her classmates this gesture if they tease her. he also said quote: "the force is and always will be strong with females here on earth and in galaxies far far away." the girl's mom says that when her daughter saw mark hamill's post she started smiling. several other women who saw the mom's tweet... responded with pictures of themselves wearing star wars gear. now the mom says the little girl doesn't want to take her star wars shirt of. dispute with a relative of frida kahlo over how their new barbie that showcases the late mexican artist. kahlo's great niece says the company doesn't have the legal rights to use kahlo's image. mattel said in a statement they worked closely with frida kahlo corporation... who owns all the rights... and that the company participated actively in the process of designing the doll. the doll is also being widely criticized for not reflecting kahlo's heavy.. nearly conjoined eyebrow. ( darya ) in san francisco... worried neighbors are demanding action after a wild hit-and run... that pushed one car áunderneath another. it happened on monday... after a driver slammed into a parked car. fortunately no one was hurt. but police are looking for the driver who left the scene. people who live near the intersection say it has become more congested and even more dangerous over the years.

( james ) in the north bay... a man is behind bars... accused of child molestation. santa rosa police believe there could be more victims. javier gines was arrested on tuesday. after an investigation... police believe he sexually assaulted at least three young girls. in one instance a girl was under the age of 14. in another case... two girls were under the age of 10. police say gines volunteered in the community and they believe there could be more victims. ( james ) a former pension benefit plan trustee has been ordered to pay over 200- thousand dollars for stealing employee benefits. lisa marie rossi worked for an oakland-based profit-sharing plan as the operating manager. investigators say she stole over 66-thousand dollars from the plan's accounts. rossi plead guilty to theft and was sentenced to a year of

( darya ) former los angeles mayor -- antonio villaraigosa -- is officially running for govenor. villaraigosa filed the paperwork yesterday... putting his name on the june fifth ballot. villaraigosa says he plans to fight for economic equality and opportunity and will protect california's values. ( darya ) one of villaraigosa's challengers is lieutenant governor gavin newsom. newsom filed his paperwork on monday. according to a recent poll... newsom is in a virtual tie with villaraigosa. ( james ) parents and students are fed up in san jose's alum rock unified school district. they claim their concerns are being ignored by the school board. parents joined hundreds of students who walked out of school yesterday afternoon. parents are describing the alum rock unified school district board as ádysfunctional and áincoherent. they are accusing the school board of lacking transparency, conflict of

( james ) from "fire and fury" to "face-to-face" in just a few short months. north korea's dictator has offered to suspend nuclear missile tests and he's invited president trump to meet with him. and president trump has accepted. secretary of state rex tillerson says it will take "some weeks" to arrange the timing of president trump's meeting. a south korean national security adviser first made the announcement outside the white house yesterday. he said kim jong un is committed to denuclearization.

( james ) police have arrested two men in connection to a series of car break-ins near ghiradelli square. last weekend san francisco saw a string of car burglaries near the popular tourist destination. jalen bryant and pride scott were arrested for the break-ins... both men had burglary tools in their posession... and bryant also had a loaded gun. police are warning people to never leave valuables out in the open... even in busy areas where you may think it's safe. ( james ) berkeley is one of the top places to live in the country. that's according to a new report from the website "niche". they based their findings on crime, public schools, cost of living, and job opportunities. berkeley ranks number three... behind ann arbor michigan and naperville illinois. other bay area cities that made the list. san francisco came in at

(take vo) the scene is less than half a mile from the walnut creek police department, where we are now.last night at about 6:52 pm the walnut creek police department received a phone call regarding a disturbance and possible assault at a construction site in the 1800 block of ygnacio valley rd. officers arrived at that location within seven minutes, but quickly determined that the initial report of the location was incorrect. officers eventually determined that the incident occurred somewhere near the 1800 block of lacassie ave and

( james ) the san mateo county district attorney says a deadly police shooting back in december was justified. it started when officers responded to a report of a man with a gun pacing near a wells fargo. police say marco carlos had a gun in his hand and he refused to drop it. he then shot at an officer. police fired back 25 times in three seconds... killing carlos. no charges will be filed against offcers. ( james ) two west oakland gang members have been sentenced for a shooting that killed a toddler in 20-11. dionte houff and houston nathaniel were each sentenced to 43 years in prison on wednesday. both men admitted that they were afiliated with the "acorn gang."... and that they were targeting rival gang members

( darya ) kron4's lydia pantazes brings us the latest. this is the area where it happened.police say when they found the 60-year old victim he had life threatening injuries.they tried to save his life, but he died at the scene. last night at about 6:52 pm the walnut creek police department received a phone call regarding a disturbance and possible assault at a construction site in the 1800 block of ygnacio valley rd. officers arrived at that location within seven minutes, but quickly determined that the initial report of the location was incorrect. officers eventually determined that the incident occurred somewhere near the

1800 block of lacassie ave and responded to that location to search for the involved parties. at approximately 7:19 pm, officers located the 60 year old victim, they tried to save his life but he died at the scene. we talked to a man who lives near where it happened.cg: judah gemmell/neighbor "yeah, obviously i'm concerned that something so close to where i live happened but in general i'd say walnut creek is a really safe place and i feel really safe here, it is very disturbing that this guy died so close an area that i've always considered safe."police detained a 34-year old man at the scene but they are not calling him a suspect at this point.that man and other witnesses are being interviewed.(oncam) if anyone has information regarding this crime please call the walnut creek police department. ( james ) the san mateo county district attorney says a deadly police shooting back in december was justified. it started when officers responded to a report of a man with a gun pacing near a wells fargo. police say marco carlos had a gun in his hand and he refused to drop it. he then shot at an officer.

( james ) two west oakland gang members have been sentenced for a shooting that killed a toddler in 20-11. dionte houff and houston nathaniel were each sentenced to 43 years in prison on wednesday. both men admitted that they were afiliated with the "acorn gang."... and that they were targeting rival gang members during the shooting. they pleaded guilty to multiple charges including using a gun during a violent crime. the child was just one month short of his second birthday when he was killed. a mother delivering a message to her child. back on valentine's day... a gunman walked into marjory stoneman douglas high school and started shooting. eighty-one calls to 911 were made during the shooting... authorities released 10 of them. ( darya ) big changes are coming to the way people in hayward get their electricity and it could save you a little bit of money. the city council voted to move customers off of electricity provided by p-g-and-e. the city will change to a carbon free source of electricity. the power will be supplied by east bay community energy. the non profit will offer two different forms of electricity. one of the choices will cost customers the same as p-g- and-e the other choice will be slightly cheaper. they city says that the changes will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 60 percent by the year 2040.
