san francisco for fleet wee. the bay bridge has been a nightmar it hasn't been easy getting into san francisco for fleet week. the bay bridge has been a nightmare most of the day. but the payoff for that long wait? it's pretty spectacular. good evening, i'm ann notarangelo. >> and i'm brian hackney. mark kelly is live along the embarcadero. mark a lot happening today. catch us up. >> reporter: a lot of -- a lot
of activity brian and a lot of it right here along the waterfront. for starters, the navy commissioned this massive vessel behind me. it's called the uss america. and that commissioning happened this morning here at piers 30 and 32. and over on marina green. all eyes were on the sky. for within highlight of san francisco fleet week -- one highlight of san francisco fleet week, you have to look up. >> i'm here for the blue angels. because it's -- [ inaudible ] >> we have this gentleman perform before. and he blew us away. >> reporter: after the blue angels' performance got cut short thursday due to fog, there was concern today would be deja vu. fortunately, the blue angels took to the air, their formations a favorite of mike hughes. >> blue angels baby. and then any of the other high speed military aircraft. and the low speed military aircraft. >> reporter: san francisco fleet week started in 1981. it has truly taken off.
it's the public's chance for a peek behind the curtain of the armed forces. but does it motivate people to join and climb inside their jets? well, depends on who you ask. >> if i were inside. i'd probably just faint and getting knocked out -- i don't know, have to wake me up. >> i love to do it. but not on a full stomach. some of those maneuvers are just -- wild. >> reporter: on marina green, the humanitarian village shows firsthand how military and civilians are prepared to respond to future disasters. these fleet week festivities generated about $10 million for the city every year. but it's this billion dollar navy ship this year that stole the show. ♪ >> the united states ship america is in commission and i am in command. >> reporter: the uss america is the navy's newest vessel. it aims to restore america's
dominance on the high seas when it takes to the ocean. the uss america was intimate in mississippi. it -- built in mississippi. it took nearly 3,000 workers working for nearly five years in order to get that ship built. brian? >> it's a massive ship. it's about a sixth of a mile long. and you learned today what's inside. right? >> reporter: absolutely. amazing what's inside. all the bells and whistles. they have nine launch pads for airliners and an entire hospital with two operating rooms and enough room for 2,000 marines on board. the navy referred to it as a modern ship to fight today's global threats. >> all righty, mark kelly live at the embarcadero. appreciate it. a lot more activities coming up for tomorrow including another blue angels' show for a complete list of events, go to kpix.com. president obama is back in washington tonight after another quick withdrawal from the bay area cash machine.
the president boarded air force one shortly before noon today. waving to the crowd gathered at sfo to see him off. it was here for less than 24 hours but that was long enough to attend a pair of high dollar fundraiser. the money will help fellow democrats next month in the elections. new tonight a man is dead after a fire tore through his hayward home. started a little after 3:00 in the morning and it moved quickly through the front of the house on fuller avenue. the man made it all the way to his front door where somehow he got trapped by a piece of furniture. his daughter and a neighbor tried to pull him free but the fire was so intense, it drove them back. >> everybody was -- all the adults that were injured were attempting to get him out of the house as the fire was burning. >> people were burned but they're expected to be okay. investigators say the fire appears to be accidental. they say an electrical cord in one of the bedrooms may have malfunctioned. the alameda county sheriff's department wants you
to close lie look at the photos. they say this man recently robbed the fremont bank in castro valley. and he made no attempt to disguise himself. he appears to be in his late 20s, about 5'9" to 6'0" tall and he was wearing black framed glasses as you see a hooded sweatshirt and a camouflage backpack. call the sheriff's department if you recognize him. adults could be on the hook for any underaged drinking in daly city that happens in their home. the city council is thinking about what's called a social host ordinance. it would allow the city to fine parents, guardians and homeowners for underaged drinking parties. fines would start at is a hundred dollars to -- $1,500 to cover the cost of the police response. the city council will take it up on monday. san jose enacted similar legislation back in 2012. the biggest story in the bay area today is happening in st. louis. the giants are facing off against the cardinals in game one of the national league championship series. and our don knapp is live in san francisco with baseball fans who have a serious case of
pennant fever. hi don. >> reporter: hi ann. you know you can watch this game just about anywhere in the bay area. at home, the living room, the family room, your favorite bar. but the diehard fans had to be here at at&t park to show their love for their team. these diehard giants' fans gathered at the public house here at at&t park for the playoff series. a sears few expected to see after their dismal late season. >> when the slump in and the a's were hot and then they started slumping and the giants started coming back. >> just expected the giants to be here today? >> no. but i'm glad they are. because i'm a bay area fan. >> reporter: everybody's got it figured out though. the giants need to play what they're calling small ball. >> you know what we have to manufacture runs and be active on the base paths and can't rely on home runs alone to win a game. >> pitching is key you know. it's a bachelor life -- they're alive, every postseason they seem to step it up a little more than the regular season and i'm just excited to see
everybody step it up this year. >> i agree. i definitely say small ball. keep the hits coming. >> reporter: ken marks and wife came from sacramento. what's the strategy they have to do now to win this series? >> they need a split. one and one, st. louis. come back home, with a 1-1 split and we're good to go. >> reporter: and what about timmy? does he have a role? >> no. no. he's going to stay in the bullpen. >> reporter: you're tough coach. >> yep. >> reporter: okay, those fans are tough. you know, we're outside on a street and the fans are inside and i didn't know what the score was, i asked somebody walking by and he said 3-0. i said who? he said giants! so -- that's the attitude they're feeling confident. they're feeling good. >> all right, hopefully that's well put. all right don thank you so much. >> good -- well, tonight police say they've arrested the arsonist who burned down half of northern california town. details next. >> from red flag warnings to a
shadow of mount shasta. the fire destroyed 157 homes in the small community last month. a 24-year-old man named ronald bo marshall rouse arrested this morning -- was arrested this morning. he's been a person of interest the whole time. they haven't said exactly how the fire started and marshall is jailed on a quarter million dollars bail on arson charges. evacuation orders have been lifted for the wildfire near i- 80 east of sacramento. the fire is now 55% contained. it burned six homes and several utility buildings and one person was hurt. it's still unclear how the fire started. meanwhile, the dog walk fire burning in yosemite national park is 54% contained tonight. investigators think a trailer safety chain dragging along a road may have sparked the fire. air tanker pilot jeffrey hunt of hollister died fighting a fire when the plane crashed on tuesday. it's still unclear what went
wrong. firefighters who have died in the line of duty were remembered at a ceremony today at the state capitol. the services included bagpipes and flag processions and uniformed firefighters, family members and dignitaries came from throughout california to pay their respects. >> we can make sure perhaps more important than anything, that we can properly honor the unflinching strength and unwavering spirits of those that have given us every measure of their service, but have since lost their lives by ensuring that their loved ones will be cared for. >> 15 names were added to the nearly 1300 names on the california firefighters' memorial. well, little earthquake rumbled through santa clara overnight. it struck near san martin between morgan hill and gilroy. and it's just a little bit east of the fault. just a little 2.5. so of course no reports of any damage. when was the last time you filled up for under $3 a

fairly gorgeous, just one band of fog that was pushing through the golden gate bridge during the blue angels' performance today. that should not be there tomorrow. because we're going to serious offshore flow and that means things are going to dry out. and the fog will be kept at way. or out of the bay actually. high pressure is going to build over nevada in the next 24 hours and it means sunny and warming up for the rest of the weekend. into the low 90-degree range. that's good, this is not. red flag warnings have been posted as a result. temperatures up. humidity is down. winds are up. the northeasterly winds could gust to 50 miles an hour everywhere you see it painted in red at the high elevations. santa cruz mountains, north bay mountains, east bay hills. so -- from now until sunday night, it will be a problem. so will this. beach hazards. surf is up. sneaker waves are possible and strong rip currents have a care if you're going to the ocean. in the meantime, everything looks like a nice night underway in the bay area.
oakland has 67 and livermore 81 degrees. in san jose 73. in santa rosa 77. here in the city, it's 64. well for tomorrow we're going to look for afternoon temperature of about 79 degrees in san francisco. for day number two of the blue angels up top. and what's happened is this low pressure finally, that's kept us kind of cool on thursday and friday and the first half of today. away it goes. it's being replaced by that building high pressure. the warmest day will be tomorrow. then a deep trough comes in over the northern part of the state and into that trough some showers could fall. beginning on tuesday in the north bay and spreading south over the rest of the bay area. there's an indication that some of the showers could linger through wednesday as well. we shall see but it looks like we're closing the door at least on summer. by the time we get the tuesday. it will warm to near 90 inland tomorrow and gusty winds and big breakers and shower chance by late tuesday. pretty much sums it up. in terms of average well above average tomorrow. ten degrees above average in san francisco and about the
same for concord. warmer than usual in the south bay and ten degrees up in oakland. tomorrow is going to be uncharacteristically warm. 86 in san jose tomorrow. men the i of sunshine tomorrow in the even -- plenty of sunshine in the east bay tomorrow as well. but gusty northeasterly winds. 92 concord and 92 at danville. san ramon 92 degrees. for tomorrow, in the north bay, 91 for santa rosa and nice at the shore. 76 at stenson beach the last really good beach day of the gray. and 85 degrees in oakland. way up north yucaipa is smoking. # 5 degrees. extended forecast looking for numbers to get into the low # 0- degree range but -- 90-degree range but then begin to fall a bit on monday. into the mid 70s tuesday and that's when we have a chance of rain. another shot of showers looks like could be coming in on friday. stay tuned. and we'll have the latest for you as well at 11:00 tonight. speaking of the latest, ann has

for you and cal -- saturday now for you and cal and their offense going strong last week. this week not so much. they hosted the huskies from washington. goff and the bears looking to stay in first. the pac 12 north going against u dub. first quarter cal with the ball at the one and goff tried to score but he fumbles and thompson going the other way. thompson gets in and scored five defensive or special teams tds this season. and it's 7-0 washington just like that. less than two minutes left in the first half. miles gets it to john ross. on the screen and look at him go. 86 yards. you're not going to catch him. 28-0 washington wins it 31-7. cal scores the lowest amount of points under sunny dikes and huskies win and cal now 4-2 and 2-2 in the pac 12. jeff ulbricht exchanging words with jim moore. not happy with each other and here's why.
