bizarre story last night. today 8 news now's mauricio marin followed along with animal control to see what now happens with the animals. ((mauricio marin/reporter: animal control spent the day taking away the exotic animals from this home in pahrump. the home owners had a permit to have the lions, tiger, and panther. but the deplorable living conditions for some of the animals is what had authorities concerned. )) ((mauricio marin)) >> one by one....animals were loaded up into trailers friday afternoon. ((sgt. michael eisenloffel/ nye county sheriff office: "the animals are currently being removed and taken to that facility so that they can be propy ((mauricio marin)) nye county sheriff deputies with the help of animal control removed lions, a tiger, and a black panther. we found those animals living in cages on the backside of the property. ((sgt. michael eisenloffel/ nye county sheriff office: "it's logistically not a very easy task to remove vicious or exotic animals of this kind. special care has to be taken for the safety of the community and our officers and the animals themselves." )) ((mauricio marin)) but what authorities found inside the home is what had them really worried.

office: "there are several linx cats inside the house but kept inside bedrooms and living areas of the home." )) ((mauricio marin)) police say those animals were found locked in bedrooms where they had been defecating and urinating on the walls and carpet. we looked at what guidelines have to be met in order for people to get a special animal permit in nye county. it shows a long list of inspection guidelines including sanitation and shelter guidelines that appear to not have been met with some of these animals. ((sgt. michael eisenloffel/ nye county sheriff offi: just visually seeing the conditions they were living in were very disturbing and concerning." )) during the removal process today---deputy were armed with shotguns as they transferred the animals into trailers out of an abudance of caution. the exotic animals are being taken to an u-s-d-a approved sanctuary. ((sgt. michael eisenloffel/ nye county sheriff office:"we also discovered a small fennec fox within the residence and interestingly enough that type of animal is restricted within nevada law under any conditions." )) ((mauricio marin))

and jacki freeman---the woman who had the animals in her possession is now facing animal cruelty charges. she was cited but not arrested. ((mauricio marin: we tried talking with the folks on the property but they didn't want to comment. sheriff deputies tell us it's an ongoing investigation---and based on what they could find---more charges could be filed. reporting in pahrump...i'm mauricio marin. 8 news now.))

high performance mustang - swerved and was broadsided on flamingo near torrey pines last night about 5:30. eyewitnesses say the driver got out and initially attended to the passenger - then began to walk around, appeared agitated, ignored citizens trying to talk to him.... and then walked away from the scene. was he on drugs or alcohol? eyewitnesses say he did'nt appear to be. (( 9:17:36 sgt. robert s impairment. i did speak to a witness who tried to talk to the driver when he was walking around the car and he didn't notice any sign of impairment so it's unknown at this time why the individual left the scene." )) ((paul joncich)) metro searched the immediate area, but couldn't find him even though he was walking around with a bloody face. ((paul joncich)) metro also traced the mustang back to it's registered owner... sent units over there. we don't know if they learned anything. this afternoon the coroner

at this hour they're still looking for the driver - described only as a male hispanic in his 20's with short hair. last seen wearing grey sweatpants and a black jacket./// ((dave courvoisier)) metro police have arrested a second suspect... in connection with what appears to have been a home invasion turned homicide earlier this month. behind bars tonight is this man... 25-year-old jorge latorre... who police arrested yesterday without incident. 18-year-old cody sullivan s the two were wanted for the shooting death of 35-year-old thomas jones back on november 5th. video allegedly captures the men entering jones' home on sandpiper way... followed by the sound of gunfire. police say they believe the homicide was narcotics related. latorre and sullivan both face a number of charges... including robbery and murder./// ((dave courvoisier)) and tonight we have new information about a case we've been following... involving 20-year-old veronica salazar... accused of killing her newborn daughter. the coroner's report has been

was caused by birth asphyxia. police say salazar gave birth to the child in a bathtub... then cut the umbilical cord and left her there to die./// ((denise valdez)) today, staff members at greenspun junior high school were put on the hot seat during a bullying trial. two families are suing the ccsd, claiming a henderson school did not handle the alleged harassment appropriately. 8 news now reporter karen castro was inside the courtroom for today's testimony. ((karen castro)) an educator and the dean were responsibilities and miscommunication among the school staff. the band teacher of the class where the alleged bullying was happening took the stand. robert beasley testified he received at email back in september 2011 from a concerned mother. he admitted he didn't forward the email, which attorneys for the victims pointed out, was a mandate under state law. beasley assumed administrators copied on the email had seen it. he said after the mother complained, he changed the seats of the student involved... but never notified the school

victims had filed a complaint with the dean. ((john scott - victims' attorney: and in september dean wynn never talked to you to make inquring about what if anything you were doing to try to solve this situation? robert beasley - band teacher, greenspun jr. high school: not that i recall.)) ((karen castro)) dean cheryl wynn was questioned about why she didn't investigate the student's complaint. she said she had a meeting with the accused bully and his mother. but wynn could not remember ever meeting with the victim or allege bullying was happening from september 2011 to january 2012... the dean had become aware of at least two emails, two student complaints, and a referral from a teacher. she said she didn't investigate the claims because she was told the assistant principal was taking care of the situation. the reason he reached out to us is a story we broke last week about an fbi investigation of the sex trafficking industry here. allegedly, one of the targets of the ongoing federal investigation is a former vice detective named chris baughman. before he left metro, baughman' and his team went after most dangerous pimps in town. one of their biggest arrests was the 2013 bust of arman izadi, shown in this spoof video. izadi was accused of not only pandering but also and robbing women who claimed they were forced to prostitute themselves in local clubs. izadi spent 20 months behind bars awaiting trial, and then, poof, two dozen felony charges were dropped, a story which has not been reported until now. so why did prosecutors change their minds?
