the governor did not say why he doesn't want the job... but he released a statement saying quote: "the notion of being considered for a seat on the highest court in the land is beyond humbling and i am incredibly grateful to have been mentioned." rumors spread yesterday that sandoval was being vetted as a possible replacement to justice antonin scalia. sandoval previously served as a federal court judge and our state's attorney general. he also had the support of senator harry reid. the white house has not confirmed that rumor./// ((kirsten joyce)) > the top republican candidates are getting ready.. to take each other on once again.. in tonight's debate in texas. it comes... just days after donald trump took his third consecutive win.. by taking the nevada caucus. scott mcelan has the latest. just a few precious days before super tuesday... the epicenter of the republican nomination race tonight will be texas. that's where the five g-o-p hopefuls left in the race will meet for a debate in houston. the big question now -- can anyone stop donald trump? the front runner says he'll be ready thursday night. we'll be totally prepared,

against me so far everyone who has attacked me has gone down. marco rubio has been attacking trump -- something that won't likely stop on the debate stage: the front runner in this race has actually alluded to the fact that he thinks parts of obamacare are pretty good (boo) then there's ted cruz -- who has faced tough questions after failing to consolidate evangelical support in nevada and especially in south carolina. the texas senator thinks he's being treated unfairly. i'm curious how many reporters ask marco rubio after losing four states in a row, so when do you drop out? and he's not running -- but 2012 republican nominee mitt romney has thrown himself back into the discussion -- calling on donald trump to release his tax returns... suggesting there could be a bombshell in there. i think there's something there, either he's not anywhere near as wealthy as he says he is, or he hasn't been paying the kind of

we have you covered this election year on air and online... at las vegas now dot com./// ((kirsten joyce)) > lyft.. is suing the city of las vegas. the ridesharing company says the city is trying to levy what it calls a quote "outrageously high tax" that it doesn't have the authority to do. lyft points out lawmakers passed a bill prohibiting fees on ridesharing that quote "restrict competition and limit consumer choice." we are reaching out to the city of las vegas to get their comment on the lawsuit./// ((kirsten joyce)) > a space heater is being blamed for an early morning house fire. it happened near decatur and the 95. investigators say a man was sleeping on a sofa on a back patio, next to the heater. it caught fire and spread to the couch, then to the home. the house belongs to the man's mother, who was not home at the time. he escaped without any injuries. ((kirsten joyce)) > fire investigators are also trying to figure out what sparked a deadly fire near nellis and harmon. a woman initially escaped.. but ran back inside the house... to save her pet.

((michael stevens)) the first of three government surplus auctions are taking place. there's over 200 hundred cars up for grabs... and nearly 400 other miscellaneous items that you can get your hands on: ((david johnson // manager, automotive services clark co.: it all comes from the different government agencies that being clark county, city of north las vegas, city of henderson, las vegas valley water district -- this is where they dispose of their excess property. )) ((michael stevens)) as you can see there's everything from cars, trucks, officer equipment, and other lost and found items that haven't been claimed: ((david johnson // manager, automotive services clark co.: we have lost and found property from mccarran could be digital cameras, computers, jewelry -- just about everything you leave behind at mccarran if you don't claim it and they can't find the

> a deadly storm system slammed the gulf coast and north east. ((sherry swensk)) people from louisiana... to new york have felt the impact of this huge storm system. check out this video from new york overnight. powerful winds toppled a massive tree in long island and flipped over a semi-truck on new york's george washington bridge. and in the bronx... broken power lines sparked building.. that collapsed during the storm. in the south.. the storm system triggered deadly tornadoes. at least 3 people in waverly virginia died.. including a 2- year-old boy.

high pressure rules the west now and that big ridge rebuilds again to drive temps well above normal and keep it too dry in california where they had a brush fire in malibu this morning... and the state is behind in rainfall. ............... the east is reeling after those deadly storms and thankfully they are less severe today... turning to mostly showers across the northeast followed by cold snow now out of the great lakes and ohio valley. ................. a lovely 74 degreest by mid afternoon with light winds and the morning will be milder to start our friday. we'll start seeing some 50s by morning. ................ then even warmer for the weekend and reaching to about 80 degrees by saturday and sunday. cooler and breezy to start off march on tuesday.///
