Members of the Dayton EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) Coalition gathered at the Montgomery County Job Center on January 27, to kick-off the 2012 EITC campaign and to inform the community of how to take advantage of federal tax credits valued at up to $5,741 per family. This 2012 tax preparation campaign will provide free, confidential tax return filing for thousands of area residents at locations throughout Dayton and Montgomery County. Also on February 4th, "Super Refund Saturday," (sponsored by KeyBank) IRS-trained volunteer tax preparers will complete and file tax returns for eligible taxpayers at no charge. The EITC is more valuable than ever—ranging from $464 for workers with no dependents to $5,741 for some families. The Child Tax Credit can provide additional tax refunds for working families with dependent children. Last year, 3,194 Dayton-area families and individuals had free tax return preparation at Dayton EITC Coalition sites and received tax refunds totaling $4,833,147. More information on the Coalition's free tax services is available from United Way's HelpLink at 913-2000 or at www.daytonohio.gov.
