Following the successful completion of the construction project, officials hope to be operating from the new station by summer 2017.
The new Fire Station 4 was estimated to cost $3 million and is funded by the Fire Sales Tax and Public Safety Trust Fund approved by voters in November 2014.
There are four total fire stations in Cape Girardeau. Current Fire Station 4 has served the northwest quadrant of the city since it opened in 1974. In addition to protecting a growing number of commercial and residential developments, and much of Interstate 55, Station 4 responds through an automatic-aid agreement to all incidents in Cape Girardeau County involving potential rescues and extrications.
