Description
Choplifter! is a side-scrolling action/arcade game that puts you in command of an attack chopper. Your mission: Go behind enemy lines and rescue up to 16 hostages per level. Be careful, though, because tanks and enemy aircraft will try to stop you - and they won't stop shooting while you are rescuing those hostages!
Originally released for Apple II home computers, Choplifter! was later ported to the arcades and a number of video game consoles. Many imitators and homages would follow.

Subject: Controls
Highlight and select “Joystick settings,” then “define keysets.”
Set your desired controls by selecting each entry in keyset 1. To set a key, press right arrow to select the entry, then press the key you want to use. You need to pick a key for each direction and joystick button, labelled “fire.” (Note: Spacebar seems like a natural “fire” button, but it’s used to pause some games, so I recommend something else).
Back out from the menu using the left arrow key, then highlight and select “Joystick Device 1,” then highlight and select “keypad 1.” Press escape to exit the settings menu and you’re ready to play.
Subject: How to play
Hold the Fire button a second to rotate your chopper between left-facing, center-facing, and right-facing.
Tap the Fire button to shoot a bullet forward (against airplanes) or drop a bomb down when center-facing (against tanks).
When you are near the people, land on the ground and they will run to you and climb aboard. Fly the rescued people back to your home base and they will run into the building. You will have to make multiple trips to rescue all of the people.
