The Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a nomination hearing for several State Department posts, including the U.S. ambassadors to Afghanistan and Bahrain and the executive director nominee for the African Development Bank. Several committee members asked the nominees about concerns over morale in the State Department due to the hiring freeze. Other questions focused on U.S. strategy in Afghanistan, human rights violations in Bahrain, and security of embassies and staff abroad.
