>> they will visit the bush family across the street today. lines stretched into the early morning hours. more now from cnn's sunlen serfaty on capitol hill. >> reporter: good morning, dave and christine. there have been so many moving moments to honor the life and legacy of former president george h.w. bush. up here on capitol hill, there was so much emotion from his family as they watched his casket slowly brought step by step into the capitol. where he once served as a congressman from texas. his body lies in state at the rotunda at the capitol. it was opened all night for the members of the public to come in and pay respects. earlier in the day, a ceremony on capitol hill where the common theme was not only speaking about the achievements of the former president, but mostly about who he was as a man. he was humble and he was kind and someone who established deep relationships here in washington.
>> he showed us that how we live is as important as what we achieve. his life was a hymn of honor. his legacy is grace perfected. his memory will belong to glory. >> reporter: the former president's body will continue to lie in state overnight tonight until wednesday where it will be brought to the national cathedral for his memorial service. he will be eulogized by his son, former president george w. bush. christine and dave. >> thank you, sunlen. in addition to that, president bush will be eulogized by brian mulroney and jon meacham. former senator alan simpson. president trump will attend the funeral on wednesday at the national cathedral, but not speak. presidents are usually asked for
eulogies, but the service was already in place before he was president and there is another president in the family to speak at an the certify -- at the service. >> all of the living presidents are expected to attend the funeral on wednesday which should make for interesting political theater. at least an astonishing photo op. putting aside predecessors he harshly criticized. george h.w. bush will wear socks honoring his naval service. he started as an 18-year-old naval aviator. the last world war ii veteran president of the united states. postal service will suspend service honoring the former president george h.w. bush. special counsel robert mueller is expected to file a sentencing memo for michael flynn today. the document could provide details about what mueller knows and where his investigation is headed next. flynn was forced to resign as national security director in february of 2017. the white house says he was let
go for misleading vice president pence about conversations with a russian diplomat. in december of 2017, flynn pleaded guilty of lying to the fbi and agreed to cooperate with mueller. the special counsel also expected to file a sentencing memo for former campaign chairman paul manafort. at least some of the memo will be made public. mueller promised to layout specifics of the manafort alleged lies which led to the termination of the plea deal. president trump's contempt for the special counsel appears to be boiling over in the latest twitter rampage which could amount to obstruction of justice or witness tampering. the president urging the maximum sentence for his former personal lawyer michael cohen who flipped on him with two guilty pleas. >> mr. trump tweeted cohen is making up stories to get a deal for himself, his wife and father-in-law so they can get off scott free. notice the president's spelling of "scot free."
notice the spelling of scott free? scot with one "t" is free of penalty. scott with two "ts" is some guy named scott. we have more from kaitlan collins at the white house. >> reporter: dave and christine, it seems that president trump bottled up his anger toward the special counsel robert mueller and unleashed it in a series of tweets going after the special counsel, but after his former attorney michael cohen who recently pleaded guilty to lying to congress. president trump is not only saying he lied under oath, but calling for the maximum prison sentence for michael cohen saying he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for the crimes he committed which he says were not related to him. two high profile guilty pleas from michael cohen have had to do with president trump. one admitted he violated campaign finance laws which he did at the direction of president trump and lying to congress, which he said he did out of loyalty to president
trump. this seems to have unnerved president trump. we reported michael cohen sat down with the special counsel's team for at least 70 hours over the last several weeks which is something clearly giving the president a cause for concern. dave and christine. >> thank you for that. the president's tweets spawning a fight between eric trump and george conway, kellyanne conway's husband. it began monday morning when conway suggested mr. trump's tweets on the russia probe amounted to witness tampering. >> eric trump responded with this, of all of the ugliness in politics, the utter disrespect of george conway shows toward his wife, her career, place of work and everything she has
fought so hard to achieve might top them all. investors cheered the temporary trade truce. $200 billion in chinese goods stay at 10%. not rise to 25% as they were scheduled on january 1st. dow rose 288 points. big moves for china stocks. apple, boeing, caterpillar all closing higher. china said it would be willing to purchase a substantial amount of agriculture and energy and other products. those details coming from the u.s. side. chinese have been more vague about where we're going here. the president tweeted about the success of the meeting with president xi jinping. he said quote, relations are china have taken a big leap
forward. and we make the finest and cleanest product in the world. that is what china wants. farmers, i love you. analysts are worried this could be short lived. the two countries have 90 days to resolve all of that. trade issues which have been in contention for years if not decades. these are complaints by the u.s. that the chinese have shown little, if any, inclination to change. the u.s. trade representative will negotiate. and a guy who was champion of the tariffs -- >> how significant is that? >> it is significant that the united states wants timelines and results and concrete actions about the things on the list. >> and if they were steve mnuchin, maybe different results? hard liner on trade. later today, cia director gina haspel is expected to brief a group of lawmakers on the
murder of journalist jamal khashoggi. some senators slammed the trump administration last week when they were denied a cia briefing on the case. haspel may be able to provide details about the audio tape of the murder and some reported text messages from the crown prince. the briefing last week without haspel triggered a backlash with senators voting to advance the resolution to cut support for the saudis on the war in yemen. republican senator lindsey graham shows saudi arabia that congress is not mugging for the cameras. we are a co-we equal branch of government. -- we are a co-equal branch of government. after all, i think someone has to do it. i think i'm the most qualified person to be president.

>> president trump has shown almost abnormal normal ity in te last couple days. he has been tweeting a lot about the russia investigation. he clearly is worried about that. that is standard course for him. so, you know, i talked to a lot of people who worked for both president bushs. they said they wanted to put the divide between trump and bush family behind him in his death. he wanted to basically say president trump, i will take the higher road. you can come to my funeral. i won't exclude you like john mccain. it is a deal. you have to act presidential if you are going to go to my memorial service. >> let me ask you about trade. the president also tweeting about trade and what a win that was and how the chinese will buy mega an amounts of agriculture. the chinese have not said they
will do these things. how big of a breakthrough from where you are in washington, how big of a breakthrough was that trade pause that the president managed? >> often times deals which are struck in argentina or elsewhere, sometimes can be larger than what initially meets the eye or smaller. you have a situation where president trump wanted a win out of the g20. this was one of the few summits that he actually didn't mess up. he wasn't cutting the macedonian prime minister in line for the photo op. he acted pretty presidential. in terms of the actual deal, there is no specifics we have here. he appointed robert leightheiser to do the trade talks.

a storm system targeting california and the eastern u.s. bracing for colder temperatures. here is meteorologist pedram javaheri. >> dave and christine, good morning. what an incredible pattern. for the second time in as many weeks, we have another system and another impressive system pushing across the western united states. the state that needs the most gets quite a bit of rainfall in the next 24 hours. not just in northern and central california, but southern california picking up significant rainfall over the next couple days. potentially making los angeles one of the wettest spots in the country. this all translates to higher elevation sierra snowshowers which is great for the water reserve for next summer.
