Gene Barry has always been one of my Favorite actors, ever since I 1st saw him in the film: "The War of The Worlds". This is part of his early work on TV. Here he plays Capt. Amos Burke, who is a wealthy Police Officer, He uses Deductive Reasoning & street Logic to uncover a criminal Conspiracy & the murderous mastermind at it's heart. The episode is in B&W & great fun to watch.

It seems the John Forsythe roles in Charlies Angels and Dynasty would have been natural roles for Gene Barry. I wonder if Mr Barry was considered .

Burke's Law was a series I had heard about, but had never actually seen until the remake came out in 1994-1995, which I watched avidly. I liked that version because Gene Barry is a great actor. Now, having finally seen an episode of the original version of this series, I can say without reservation that it was a great show indeed. The pacing was excellent; the introduction of the suspects was spread out, which gave me a chance to get to know them better and keep them straight in my mind; and the plot was of good, even quality. Not having seen the pilot or the beginnings of the characters seemed a little jarring at first, but I was familiar with Amos Burke so I knew he was wealthy and chauffered around in a Rolls Royce already. The car was a nice touch, as well as the touches of humor interspersed throughout the episode. What can I say but that this one episode was enough for me to want to see more stories involving these characters. I read that Season One of this series has been released to home dvd in two volumes, so I might have to check into picking it up for my collection.

If you like easy-going mysteries with enough clues for you to figure it out on your own and familiar faces as guest stars, such as was found on "Murder She Wrote," then by all means get this episode for your viewing pleasure. I wasn't disappointed in it.
