A bartender (Matthew Modine) captivates a stingy customer (Martin Landau) with the saga of two rival mob families who go to war after one of their children is stiffed on a tip. Despite a clever script, a solid cast of familiar names and faces, award-winning editing (at the Seattle Film Festival), an absolutely glowing review from Variety, and hopes for Academy Award nominations, Very Mean Men fell into total obscurity after playing a few festivals, attaining only one DVD release in the entire...

Following the lack of success of 1977's animated film " Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure " and a reworked stage adaptation by screenwriter Patricia Thackray, songwriter Joe Raposo reteamed with William Gibson for a much darker entry in the Raggedy Ann series. Kaptain Kool and the Kongs was similar to The Monkees in that they were created to host the Saturday morning children's television series "The Krofft Supershow." The " K " stands for creators/brothers Sid & Marty " Krofft ," but clearly no one considered the perplexing acronym that this created. The original lineup of the band was Michael Lembeck (Kaptain Kool), Mickey McMeel (Turkey), Louise DuArt (Nashville), Debra Clinger (Superchick), and Woodstock's...

In 1970, Kellogg's Cereal held a promotion in which children saved and sent away box tops and were rewarded with this 45 soundtrack album. It doesn't include the opening theme song (which may have been tied up in litigation at the time), and a handful of other songs were omitted, but it's the only official release that most of these tunes have ever had. A few tracks subsequently surfaced on Sid & Marty Krofft compilation CDs, but they were sourced from the same vinyl album.

An incredible 10-hour documentary on the life and career of John Lennon, largely told through archival interviews with the superstar and his cohorts. The series was quickly followed up with a tie-in book by Kevin Howlett and Mark Lewison, and it's gone on to be repeated on occasion, but it's never been commercially released (save for a 5-record set pressed for internal use at the BBC). The film was given a "Deluxe Edition Two-Record Set" soundtrack album release in 1967 by Warner Bros. Records. It was the first film to have its vocals be released in its entirety on an album, because the picture's mature subject matter and profanity (which was directly responsible for the creation of the MPAA ratings board) meant that the studio couldn't reap returns from network TV broadcasts. Alex North's score is omitted, with the sole exception being a track titled "...

Vance or Towers is a 1970s power-pop band that would be completely forgotten if not for their appearance as the prom band in Brian De Palma's 1976 film " Carrie. The duo released one self-titled LP in 1975 which includes "Education Blues," the song that opens the prom -- though the version in the film drastically differs from the LP...

Years ago , I burned a ton of TGIF bumpers and promos to a now-barely-readable DVD, and then uploaded the videos to YouTube and various other sites. The "official souvenir program, guide and coloring book" for the 17th annual Mohassan Grotto Circus, which was held in the Rock Island Armory in March 1985. As a souvenir program and guide, it's kind of mediocre. As a coloring book, it's utterly pathetic. More than anything, this could be called The Big Big Book of Quad Cities Advertisements.

In 2013, I realized that I wasn't videotaping anymore, and unlike the days of yore, there would be no good backup of TV commercials. So I began to skim through my DVR and hit a variety of channels to try to preserve the current advertising. Suffice it to say that this was a tedious and short-lived trend, with the majority of ads coming from broadcasts in September of that year. In total, I captured 6 hours of commercials, with a minimum of repeats. When I decided to put them on the archive, I...

Years ago, I transferred my tapes of the show to DVD, including the related ABC bumpers, promos and skits. The skits aired across the two hour block of Friday Night TGIF programming but I didn't record the first hour ("Two of a Kind," "Boy Meets World"), so some of them are incomplete. However, there's about 17 minutes of footage that ought be of interest to fans. Includes appearances by The Olsen Twins, Michelle Kwan, Karl Malone, Salem the Cat from "Sabrina the...

The final draft shooting script for the 1982 film, solely credited to director Colin Higgins, whose vision shone through in the final cut despite numerous deletions. First things first, the movie both excited and scared Universal Pictures, who were afraid it would be perceived as pornographic. When Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds signed on for the film, they demanded their roles be expanded, which resulted in the loss of huge chunks of the original musical, and raised the ire of original...
