We developed an efficient algorithm integrated in our 3D modeling tool, GX Simulator (Nita et al. 2015), allowing quick computation of the synthetic intensity and polarization maps of solar active regions (AR) in the ALMA spectral range. The algorithm analyzes the photospheric input (white light and magnetogram) to classify a given photospheric pixel to belong to a given photospheric structure. Then, a 1D chromospheric model (Fontenla et al. 2009) is added on top of each pixel, which forms a...

The performance of an underlay cognitive (secondary) dual-hop relaying system with multiple antennas and hardware impairments at each transceiver is investigated. In particular, the outage probability of the end-to-end (e2e) communication is derived in closed-form, when either transmit antenna selection with maximum ratio combining (TAS/MRC), or TAS with selection combining (TAS/SC) are established in each hop. Simplified asymptotic outage expressions are also obtained, which manifest the...

We explain the 2.3 sigma deviation in the recent measurements of the neutral B mesons decay into muon pairs from the standard model prediction in the framework of supersymmetric grand unified models using anti-symmetric coupling as a new source of flavor violation. We show a correlation between the B_d -> mu^+mu^- decay and the CP phase in the B_d -> J/psi K decay and that their deviations from the standard model predictions can be explained after satisfying constraints arising from...

In de Sitter (dS) gravity, where gravity is a gauge field introduced to realize the local dS invariance of the matter field, two kinds of conservation laws are derived. The first kind is a differential equation for a dS-covariant current, which unites the canonical energy-momentum (EM) and angular momentum (AM) tensors. The second kind presents a dS-invariant current which is conserved in the sense that its torsion-free divergence vanishes. The dS-invariant current unites the total (matter plus...

We present a magneto-infrared spectroscopic study of thin Bi2Se3 single crystal flakes. Magneto-infrared transmittance and reflectance measurements are performed in the Faraday geometry at 4.2K in a magnetic field up to 17.5T. Thin Bi2Se3 flakes (much less than 1{\mu}m thick) are stabilized on the Scotch tape, and the reduced thickness enables us to obtain appreciable far-infrared transmission through the highly reflective Bi2Se3 single crystals. A pronounced electron-phonon coupling is...

We show that for any $2$-local colouring of the edges of the balanced complete bipartite graph $K_{n,n}$, its vertices can be covered with at most~$3$ disjoint monochromatic paths. And, we can cover almost all vertices of any complete or balanced complete bipartite $r$-locally coloured graph with $O(r^2)$ disjoint monochromatic cycles.\\ We also determine the $2$-local bipartite Ramsey number of a path almost exactly: Every $2$-local colouring of the edges of $K_{n,n}$ contains a monochromatic...

We study a general class of quadratic BSDEs with terminal value in Lp for p>1. We prove a Lp-type estimate, existence, comparison theorem, uniqueness and stability result. In order to construct a solution, we use a combination of the localization procedure developed by Briand and Hu [6] and the monotone stability result. We point out that our existence result relies on rather weak assumptions on the generators. By additionally assuming monotonicity and convexity, we deduce the comparison...

In order to foster renewable energy integration, improve power quality and reliability, and reduce hydrocarbon emissions, there is a strong need to deploy energy storage systems (ESSs), which can provide a control medium for peak hour utility operations. ESSs are especially desired at the residential level, as this sector has the most untapped demand response potential. However, considering their high acquisition, operation, and maintenance costs, individual ESS deployment is not economically...

The quantum phase transitions induced by a magnetic field are theoretically studied in a frustrated two-leg spin ladder. Using the density-matrix renormalization-group method, we find some magnetic phase transitions and plateaux in two different cases of strong and weak rung couplings. With the strong rung coupling, the three magnetization plateaux are found at 1/3, 1/2, and 2/3 due to the frustration. Those can be understood in terms of a quasi-spinon reconstructed from the singlet and the...

In this paper, an existence theory is established for ring-profiled optical vortex solitons. We consider such solitons in the context of an electromagnetic light wave propagating in a self-focusing nonlinear media and governed by a nonlinear Schr\"odinger type equation. A variational principle and constrained minimization approach is used to prove the existence of positive solutions for an undetermined wave propagation constant. We provide a series of explicit estimates related to the wave...

We discuss here the possibility of explaining the rotational velocity curves of the galaxies in $f(\mathcal{R})$ gravity by solving field equations numerically. In a given constant rotational velocity region, we prove that all values of rotational velocities does not lead to an analytic solution of the field equations in vacuum. We then obtain the numerical solutions of the field equations which suggests that a very slightly modification from linear relations of $\mathcal{R}$ can be an...

In this paper we show how to simulate and estimate a COGARCH(p,q) model in the R package yuima. Several routines for simulation and estimation are available. Indeed for the generation of a COGARCH(p,q) trajectory, the user can choose between two alternative schemes. The first is based on the Euler discretization of the stochastic differential equations that identifies a COGARCH(p,q) model while the second one considers the explicit solution of the variance process. Estimation is based on the...

The Eastern Banded Structure (EBS) and Hydra~I halo overdensity are very nearby (d $\sim$ 10 kpc) objects discovered in SDSS data. Previous studies of the region have shown that EBS and Hydra I are spatially coincident, cold structures at the same distance, suggesting that Hydra I may be the EBS's progenitor. We combine new wide-field DECam imaging and MMT/Hectochelle spectroscopic observations of Hydra I with SDSS archival spectroscopic observations to quantify Hydra I's present-day...

Cells are strongly out-of-equilibrium systems driven by continuous energy supply. They carry out many vital functions requiring active transport of various ingredients and organelles, some being small, others being large. The cytoskeleton, composed of three types of filaments, determines the shape of the cell and plays a role in cell motion. It also serves as a road network for the so-called cytoskeletal motors. These molecules can attach to a cytoskeletal filament, perform directed motion,...

In this paper we analyze the predictions of the forward approximation in some models which exhibit an Anderson (single-) or many-body localized phase. This approximation, which consists in summing over the amplitudes of only the shortest paths in the locator expansion, is known to over-estimate the critical value of the disorder which determines the onset of the localized phase. Nevertheless, the results provided by the approximation become more and more accurate as the local coordination...

We study dimension reduction for the three-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation with a long-range and anisotropic dipole-dipole interaction modeling dipolar Bose-Einstein condensation in a strong interaction regime. The cases of disk shaped condensates (confinement from dimension three to dimension two) and cigar shaped condensates (confinement to dimension one) are analyzed. In both cases, the analysis combines averaging tools and semiclassical techniques. Asymptotic models are derived, with...

High order energy-preserving methods for Hamiltonian systems are presented. For this aim, an energy-preserving condition of continuous stage Runge--Kutta methods is proved. Order conditions are simplified and parallelizable conditions are also given. The computational cost of our high order methods is comparable to that of the average vector field method of order two.

Temporal networks come with a wide variety of heterogeneities, from burstiness of event sequences to correlations between timings of node and link activations. In this paper, we set to explore the latter by using greedy walks as probes of temporal network structure. Given a temporal network (a sequence of contacts), greedy walks proceed from node to node by always following the first available contact. Because of this, their structure is particularly sensitive to temporal-topological patterns...

We propose a multi input multi output(MIMO) system identification framework by interpreting the MIMO system in terms of a multirate synthesis filter bank. The proposed methodology is discussed in two steps: in the first step the MIMO system is interpreted as a synthesis filter bank and the second step is to convert the MIMO system into a SISO system "without any loss of information", which re-structures the system identification problem into a SISO form. The system identification...

We discuss the strong couplings $g_{PPV}$ and $g_{VVP}$ for vector ($V$) and pseudoscalar ($P$) mesons, at least one of which is a charmonium state $J/\psi$ or $\eta_c$. The strong couplings are obtained as residues at the poles of suitable form factors, calculated in a broad range of momentum transfers using a dispersion formulation of the relativistic constituent quark model. The form factors obtained in this approach satisfy all constraints known for these quantities in the heavy-quark...

We introduce a derivative-free computational framework for approximating solutions to nonlinear PDE-constrained inverse problems. The aim is to merge ideas from iterative regularization with ensemble Kalman methods from Bayesian inference to develop a derivative-free stable method easy to implement in applications where the PDE (forward) model is only accessible as a black box. The method can be derived as an approximation of the regularizing Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) scheme [14] in which the...

Using an estimate on the number of critical points for a Morse-even function on the sphere $\mathbb S^m$, $m\ge1$, we prove a multiplicity result for orthogonal geodesic chords in Riemannian manifolds with boundary that are diffeomorphic to Euclidean balls. This yields also a multiplicity result for brake orbits in a potential well.

We regularize compact and non-compact Abelian Chern-Simons-Maxwell theories on a spatial lattice using the Hamiltonian formulation. We consider a doubled theory with gauge fields living on a lattice and its dual lattice. The Hilbert space of the theory is a product of local Hilbert spaces, each associated with a link and the corresponding dual link. The two electric field operators associated with the link-pair do not commute. In the non-compact case with gauge group $\mathbb{R}$, each local...

We consider the classic problem of establishing a statistical ranking of a set of n items given a set of inconsistent and incomplete pairwise comparisons between such items. Instantiations of this problem occur in numerous applications in data analysis (e.g., ranking teams in sports data), computer vision, and machine learning. We formulate the above problem of ranking with incomplete noisy information as an instance of the group synchronization problem over the group SO(2) of planar rotations,...

There is great interest in designing photonic devices capable of disorder-resistant transport and information processing. In this work we propose to exploit 3D integrated photonic circuits in order to realize 2D discrete-time quantum walks in a background synthetic gauge field. The gauge fields are generated by introducing the appropriate phase shifts between waveguides. Polarization-independent phase shifts lead to an Abelian or magnetic field, a case we describe in detail. We find that, in...

Energy dissipation in magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence is known to be highly intermittent in space, being concentrated in sheet-like coherent structures. Much less is known about intermittency in time, another fundamental aspect of turbulence which has great importance for observations of solar flares and other space/astrophysical phenomena. In this Letter, we investigate the temporal intermittency of energy dissipation in numerical simulations of MHD turbulence. We consider...

This letter investigates a new class of index coding problems. One sender broadcasts packets to multiple users, each desiring a subset, by exploiting prior knowledge of linear combinations of packets. We refer to this class of problems as index coding with coded side-information. Our aim is to characterize the minimum index code length that the sender needs to transmit to simultaneously satisfy all user requests. We show that the optimal binary vector index code length is equal to the minimum...

It is generally expected that adding light sterile species would increase the effective number of neutrinos, $N_{eff}$. In this paper we discuss a scenario that $N_{eff}$ can actually decrease due to the neutrino oscillation effect if sterile neutrinos have self-interactions. We specifically focus on the eV mass range, as suggested by the neutrino anomalies. With large self-interactions, sterile neutrinos are not fully thermalized in the early Universe because of the suppressed effective mixing...

Assume we have two bijective functions $U(x)$ and $M(x)$ with $M(x)\neq U(x)$ for all $x$ and $M,N: \N \rightarrow \N$ . Every day and in different locations, we see the different results of $U$ and $M$ without seeing $x$. We are not assured about the time stamp nor the order within the day but at least the location is fully defined. We want to find the matching between $U(x)$ and $M(x)$ (i.e., we will not know $x$). We formulate this problem as an adaptive graph mining: we develop the theory,...

We systematically analyze the 6-year {\it Fermi}/LAT data of the lobe-dominated quasars (LDQs) in the complete LDQ sample from 3CRR survey and report the discovery of high-energy $\gamma$-ray emission from 3C 275.1. The $\gamma$-ray emission of 3C 207 is confirmed and significant variability of the lightcurve is identified. We do not find statistically significant $\gamma$-ray emission from other LDQs. 3C 275.1 is the known $\gamma$-ray quasar with the lowest core dominance parameter (i.e.,...

We establish the direct $d=2$ on-shell bosonization $\psi_{L}(x_{+})=e^{i\xi(x_{+})}$ and $\psi_{R}^{\dagger}(x_{-})=e^{i\xi(x_{-})}$ in path integral formulation by deriving the off-shell relations $\psi_{L}(x)\psi_{R}^{\dagger}(x)=\exp[i\xi(x)]$ and $\psi_{R}(x)\psi_{L}^{\dagger}(x)=\exp[-i\xi(x)]$. Similarly, the on-shell bosonization of the bosonic commuting spinor, $\phi_{L}(x_{+})=ie^{-i\xi(x_{+})}\partial^{+}e^{-i\chi(x_{+})}$, $\phi^{\dagger}_{R}(x_{-})=e^{-i\xi(x_{-})-i\chi(x_{-})}$...

We investigate properties of the plasma fluid motion in the large amplitude low frequency fluctuations of highly Alfv\'enic fast solar wind. We show that protons locally conserve total kinetic energy when observed from an effective frame of reference comoving with the fluctuations. For typical properties of the fast wind, this frame can be reasonably identified by alpha particles, which, owing to their drift with respect to protons at about the Alfv\'en speed along the magnetic field, do not...

Hypersymplectic structures with torsion on Lie algebroids are investigated. We show that each hypersymplectic structure with torsion on a Lie algebroid determines three Nijenhuis morphisms. From a contravariant point of view, these structures are twisted Poisson structures. We prove the existence of a one-to-one correspondence between hypersymplectic structures with torsion and hyperk\"{a}hler structures with torsion. We show that given a Lie algebroid with a hypersymplectic structure with...

Two-color second-order correlations of the light scattered near-resonantly by a quantum dot were measured by means of spectrally-filtered coincidence detection. The effects of filter frequency and bandwidth were studied under monochromatic laser excitation, and a complete two-photon spectrum was reconstructed. In contrast to the ordinary one-photon spectrum, the two-photon spectrum is asymmetric with laser detuning and exhibits a rich structure associated with both real and virtual two-photon...
