A week after accompanying Patricia Derian on her trip to Argentina, Office of East Coast Affairs head Fred Rondon writes to Ambassador Robert Hill. His letter describes meetings held, captures general impressions, and offers specifics about the horrors going on in Argentina. Several descriptions are shocking for the graphic detail with which they describe violence committed against women. In one incident referring to the detention of a mother and daughter, the mother is "beaten with rubber truncheons" while "she could hear her daughter's screams in a nearby room." The mother is subsequently released but her daughter remains disappeared.
